Brave Search
Brave Search is an independent search engine with its own index. It does not track users, profile queries, or show ads. When it is the web search provider, Cadence routes queries through the Brave Search API and feeds ranked results back to the assistant.
What you need
- A hatched local assistant (Linux desktop in 0.1).
-
A Brave Search API key from
api.search.brave.com.
Keys start with
BSA.
Setup
Brave is BYOK. You stay in control of the key and pay Brave directly.
- Open Settings → Models & Services.
- Under Web Search, choose Brave Search and paste the key.
- Ask something current. The next search uses Brave.
assistant keys set brave BSA... assistant config set services.web-search.provider brave
Revoke with assistant keys delete brave.
When to pick it
- Privacy-leaning workspaces. Independent index, no query tracking.
- Reuse one key across hatches so Brave billing stays in one dashboard.
- Fallback is documented on Web search.
